The Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated for the young people of our parish who are in Year 9 or above. The formation programme usually lasts from December till May, with registration usually taking place before or during Advent. A key expectation of the programme is a full and generous commitment to all the requirements of the course, which effectively is training for adulthood in the Church, and above all to the Saturday 5.00pm - 6,00pm teaching sessions, followed by Mass at 6.30pm on Saturday evening, and, once a month, the Youth Mass on a Sunday evening at 6.30pm. These commitments are clear on the information sheet and application form for the Youth Confirmation programme, available from the Parish Office in November. Any significant unwillingness or inability to honour the commitments undertaken, would likely result in the Parish Priest being unable to present the applicant for Confirmation in the current year and the young person having to reapply for Confirmation the following year.
For registration of any further explanation, contact the Parish Office or Fr Mike Maguire.
For a number of reasons, there are many Catholics who have not been Confirmed in their youth. Adults seeking Confirmation will normally be invited to join the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults for a shorter course than those non-Catholic seeking to join the Church. The course runs on a Monday evening at 8.00pm and, for adults seeking Confirmation, is from January to May.
